10 Public Sector Banks merged into 4; Know all figures, impact & Significance
Ten big public sector banks (PSBs) have been merged into four. India will now have 12 Public Sector Banks from 27 in 2017. The merger of banks was announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on August 30, 2019, while addressing a press conference. The banks which are being merged together are Punjab National Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, United Bank of India, Indian Bank, Allahabad Bank, Canara Bank, Syndicate Bank, Union Bank of India, Andhra Bank and Corporation Bank.

US President Donald Trump launched the US Space Command on August 29, 2019. Trump stated that just as the US recognized land, air, sea and cyber as vital war-fighting domains, it will now treat space as an independent region overseen by a new unified geographic combatant command.
Bihar Government bans jeans, t-shirts in state secretariat
Bihar Government has imposed a ban on wearing of T-shirts and jeans by the employees in the state secretariat. The Bihar Government order read, “Officials and employees must wear decent, comfortable, simple, sober and light-coloured attire.” The order stated that the employees must choose their dress according to the weather and nature of work.
Ambati Rayudu comes out of retirement, writes letter to Hyderabad Cricket Association
Ambati Rayudu, who had announced his retirement on July 3, made a u-turn and said that he would like to come out of retirement on August 30, 2019. Ambati Rayudu wrote a letter to Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), in which he said, “I would like to bring to your notice that I would like to come out of retirement and play cricket in all formats.”
UGC constitutes 5-member committee to inquire into sale of fake degrees by universities
The UGC has set up a five-member committee to look into the allegations of sale of fake degrees by certain universities. The UGC Committee is required to complete its investigation in three weeks and identify institutions and individuals that have resorted to such illegal practices so that strict action can be taken against everyone involved.
